Moorcroft Pottery is still loyal to its founder, and is still made in England at W Moorcroft Ltd, Sandbach Road, Burslem, Stoke on Trent, England.

Today, the Moorcroft Design Studio comprises world-class ceramic designers who have moved design forward to the centre of the International stage in the theatre of the applied arts.

Walter Moorcroft | Leadership at Moorcroft Pottery | 1945 - 1987

Walter Moorcroft, son of William Moorcroft, was born in Trentham, a village in Staffordshire on 12th February 1917, when the outcome of the First World War was still in the balance.

After his education, leaving Rugby School at 18, he began work at the W Moorcroft Ltd factory on Monday 30th September 1935.

The opportunity to realise this ambition arose in commencing employment with James MacIntyre and Co, Burslem - where he continued until 1913, when the company W Moorcroft Ltd was formed with William producing his wares under his own name (and the company continues producing pottery to this day).

What is a Moorcroft Trial?

When a contemporary Moorcroft artist designs a piece, before the FINAL design for a Limited or Numbered Edition is "decided upon" - a few differing versions are produced. These are called Moorcroft TRIALS.
