Albany is a design based on the Australian pincushion flower, and the pattern was intended to appear on a range of 12 pieces. Albany pattern first appeared in the 2001 catalogue to considerable acclaim, but almost immediately ran into production difficulties. The first of these occurred when the chemical structure of a colour was changed by the supplier without notice. Initially Moorcroft was blisfully unaware of the problem, the only sign of which had been the arrival of a modest quantity of imperfect pieces. When the colour finally became unavailable the outcome was inevitable. Albany was hurriedly discontinued. With some difficulty outstanding orders on all twelve pieces in the range were fulfilled from existing colour stock, leaving those Albany collectors lucky enough to own a piece sitting on an asset seen as rare in the secondary market.
