About DH Souter
David Henry Souter (1862 - 1935) was an illustrator and writer born and trained in Britain but emigrated to Australia in his early 20's. There he joined the staff of the Sydney current affairs magazine The Bulletin and rapidly became known throughout Australia for his Art Nouveau style of illustration of cats. His popular Kateroo was adopted in figure form by Royal Doulton as well - and his designs of "Souter's Cats" rank amongst some of the most sought after Doulton designs.
