About the Kennet design from the William Morris 2019 collection:

William Morris is best known as one of the Nineteenth Century's most celebrated designers.  A key figure in the Arts & Crafts Movement, Morris championed a principle of handmade production that did not chime with the Victorian era's focus on industrial 'progress'.

Itself a lone survivor from the Arts and Crafts movement, Moorcroft has kept the spirit of Morris’s work alive.  We are delighted to present a collection dedicated to this remarkable man, inspired by his wallpapers and textiles but also carpets, embroideries, tapestries, tiles and book designs.

Kennet was originally produced at Merton Abbey using a technique which involved printing onto a dyed indigo cloth using a bleaching agent which removed the ground colour and at the same time printed reds, greens and yellows in its place. Kerry saw the fabric in one of the bedrooms when she visited Kelmscott Manor and decided to use elements from the design. Brilliant turquoise-blue floods the backdrop, whilst broad, stylized flowers roam freely and wildly.
