Moorcroft Designer, Kerry Goodwin, comes from Irish stock and her grandmother, Roseanna, was a famous Dublin flower seller who would walk the streets with her barrow in much the same way as the young lady of Ireland’s most famous ballad, Molly Mallone. Certainly, for Kerry, roses are in the blood. Against a background of soft yellow, white roses are flushed with raspberry-pink. The variety that Kerry chose is called ‘Mother’s Love’. The flower weaves its way around every inch of the vase not unlike the warmth of a mother’s love. Traditionally, yellow ribbons were worn as a sign of hope as women waited for their men to come home from war, and for Mother’s Day, a yellow ground is appropriate – as mothers celebrate the overcoming of various battles in their own lives. According to Victorians, the white rose indicates love, but more from a peace and purity perspective. Indeed, there is nothing more pure than a mother’s love. Its enduring quality will sustain their little ones through early development and then, like the petals on this rose, flush with relief when their tiny little babies begin to walk in the paths mapped
